Description
Thabaphaswa Mountain Sanctuary is not a normal camping site, but rather a bundu bash. With a "donkey" for a hot shower (outdoor geyser heated by wood fire) & a flush toilet with a mountain view, it must be experienced to appretiate the uniqueness. The 10 km dirt road is also a challenge for a soft under-belly motorhome. The entire lack of electricity, made our heater useless.. extra blankets helped us through a chilly night. The bushveld is dry & dusty in winter. However, we find everything peacefull & very safe. Deon was friendly & Johannes "managed the donkey".

The manager Deon is very friendly and very helpful.
Went up to the lookout point which has an amazing view. You will need a 4x4 with high ground clearance to get there.
Lovely hiking trails and walks.
If you are going to bring your pets please make sure their tick medication is up to date.
We will definitely be back.
Report Check-InVery well organized campsites. We stayed at drunken parrot tree which is in the bush- so lots of peace and quiet.
Ablutions are simple- lovely hot outdoor shower, braai pit, water tap and small wash up area. While basic, all very well maintained. One of the staff members comes to light the donkey boiler in the evening and again around 7am. Rubbish/ash also seems to be collected daily.
Plenty of hiking trails- while we only stayed one night, it would definitely be worth a longer visit. Owner, Deon was very friendly. Should you wish to call ahead, his number is +27 82 389 6631.

Report Check-InWondeful peaceful location nestling in the mountains. A variety of camping options and sites, from the secluded Drunken Parrot Tree, to larger more open areas. All sites have open air showers and toilets, some with stunning mountain views. Various trails through the bush to explore. Came for one night and stayed three. 170Rand pppn. No power, no mobile signal.
